I am so so SOOO very to have found this group... it will be wonderful to have a place to vent everything about RED #40 to....
We just recently (about 1 month now) took our 4 1/2 yr old off of RED for the most part (so hard to do with 4 kids at home....) She was doing so great and then my DH and I decided to have some time together and give the kids to his parents for 2 days and to my mom for 2 days.... We REMINDED them that we were AVOIDING RED DYE with "S" they for the most part, didn't care and gave her things like Chocolate Marshmellows, Pez, Peeps, Chocolate Candy Conversation hearts, etc.... and who knows what OTHER things she got.... Then when they all got home, 2 of them were sick and with out thinking we gave "S" Motrin (NOT the DYE free...UGH!)
OH, for 4 days straight I wanted to Rip her arm off and Beat her with it! I cried alot, yelled alot, and cried some more because of the yelling..... I made a Counseling appt for myself to GET things off my chest (it is next week) and then cried some more....
"S" is being tested for ODD (oppositional Deffiancy Disorder) and PDD (pervasive Developmental Delay) and some Agression things... I am hoping there will be NO need for an IEP, but that reading is on the 11th... with one more day of testin to go.... I will let you all know how that goes down!
SOOOO, for the past 6 days there has been NO, and I mean NO Red Dye at all.... She is much more pleasent and better to be around, still aggravating her younger sister (part of ODD) but can easily be re-directed away from it instead of getting into it with me or someone else....
I am enjoying doing research on all of it but so worried about the contraversy there is out there... my Husbands parents are ones that we will have a power struggle with... we already informed them to make GOOD choices for Easter Candy and told them that we will be bringing special stuff for her to TRADE out her easter egg hunt stuff with.... I know it will be stressful, but sooooo worth it RIGHT?????!!!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this! I can't wait to learn all I can and am so happy that there is now a TRADER JOES 45 min away and a WHOLE FOODS 1 hour away..... I can't wait to find MORE alternatives to our everyday things as I have told my other kids that we will be RED DYE FREE in our home by Summer (I have a 6 & 7 yr old who are in school and taking it away from one kid is enough work for now, we will work on the others over the summer and if I see changes in them , ex: our spirited 6 yr old, then we will talk with the teachers about snack next year)
